De Futebol Everton defeats Toons!

Everton defeated Newcastle 1-0 at the Toffees house. The loss stops Toons four match winning streak.

EPL Match Report:” Theo Walcott scored the only goal as Everton moved up to eighth in the Premier League and ended Newcastle United’s four-match winning streak.

The Magpies were only a point and a place behind the Toffees before kick-off, but Walcott slammed in Everton’s goal when DeAndre Yedlin failed to deal with Yannick Bolasie’s deep cross in the 51st minute.

In a first half of few clear-cut chances, Everton defender Phil Jagielka had the best opportunity when he couldn’t find the target with his close-range volley.

Newcastle striker Ayoze Perez fired wide moments before Walcott’s opener, and Matt Ritchie curled a free-kick narrowly over, but the Toffees held on.

Everton move above Leicester to eighth position, four points and two places ahead of Newcastle.”

At this stage of the season these results are almost meaningless .

There are a few things to play for.

Not really unless you’re talking about qualifying for the UEFA Champions League status ? The Europa League is meaningless and just a second tier competition. UEFA should still be addressing the insolvency issues still facing a lot of soccer clubs as well as the fact the seasons remain a physical drag on the players. Bear in mind we still have the World Cup which is due to take place.

The battle for the Champions league spots are still up for grabs. Chelsea has an outside shot to make it. I can’t wait for the World Cup

Whomever makes it from the Premiership will be highly favored for next season’s competition.

As for the World Cup , it’s anybody’s to win as I don’t believe there’s an outright favorite.
